A Life Beyond Your Imagination

Yoga, an ancient practice or technology of mindfulness and physical well-being, has historically made its way west, transcending cultural boundaries to touch lives in profound ways. Aizharkyn Walker, affectionately known as Jaka, is a living testament to the transformative power of yoga. Originally from Kyrgyzstan and now residing in Chesapeake, Virginia, Jaka's journey into yoga commenced during her pregnancy, becoming a source of strength and resilience.

In the throes of impending motherhood, Jaka embraced yogic breathing techniques learned in her prenatal yoga class  to navigate the intensity of labor pains. Her husband's commitments as a government employee meant that she had to potentially face this momentous occasion alone.  When asked to qualify and quantify the impactful yoga had on the experience, she responded confidently.

"Without this little bit of practice, I think I may have had a much more uncomfortable experience. The biggest thing was realizing how important it is to breathe. It sounds silly because we all breathe but we do not all breathe deliberately.”

The ability to breathe, clear her mind, and ground herself in the present moment became invaluable tools, offering solace despite her husband's delayed arrival.

Jaka's journey with yoga has led her to pursue a deeper understanding through the Maha Vira yoga Instructor Course. Currently in her second week of training, she acknowledges the challenges, especially as English is not her first language (Kyrgyz and Russian being her native tongues). Yet, her commitment to this transformative journey remains unwavering.

As she immerses herself in the Maha Vira Yoga instructor course, Jaka recognizes the immense potential of yoga in every facet of life and explains her intent to continue growth in that direction with a simple introspective question.

"If yoga could have such a profound impact on managing one of the most uncomfortable and beautiful situations in my life, how much more prepared would I be to handle every other celebration and challenge?"

Jaka's aspiration to become a yoga instructor is fueled by the desire to share this transformative potential with others. Her story resonates with the belief that yoga, with its myriad benefits, extends beyond physical exercise to become a guiding force in navigating whatever life brings her way while enhancing the experience. Through her training, Jaka believes she is deliberately crafting her ability to assist others in the initiation of their yoga journeys in the future.

According to the World Health Organization, Yoga is a powerful tool which could potentially assist individuals, communities and entire national populations to improve both physical and mental health. Very often, yoga has been shown nearly immediate psychological benefits such as decreased anxiety and increased feelings of social and emotional well-being.

“I honestly never thought I would be here and I am not sure yet how I feel about the idea of being an instructor. However, I believe that I am here for a reason and that the only reason why I made it here is because it was supposed to be this way. It’s good for me.  When I was in the prenatal course, the techniques brought me so much peace and as I look ahead with no idea what is to come, I feel that same peace now.”

Sadhguru, yogi and founder of the Isha Foundation in India once said, “I’m saying all of your dreams are just exaggerations of what you already know… If you go like this, you are ensuring that nothing new ever comes to you. So my blessing is - may your dreams not come true and may things that you could have never dreamt of happen to you.”  Jaka’s experience seems to embody this concept in a very powerful way.
